My Deutsch learning notes

These are personal notes of things I'm learning in Deutsch. Beware that this is not reliable, I might be wrong. DYOR.

Nouns

• every noun seems to start with capital letters, even mid sentence.

• and every single one has a gender

  • masculine: der Man
  • feminine: die Frau
  • neuter: das Mädchen
  • plural: die Männer, die Frauen, die Mädchen
  • I could not find a pattern that I can do an educated guess if the gender of the noun is male or female. Maybe the best strategy is just memoize the gender when I learn about the noun.

• another pattern seems that when you add -in to a noun, it turns into feminine.

  • der Kollege - die Kollegin
  • der Freund - die Freundin

• indefinite articles

  • indefinite: ein (masculine), eine (feminine)

• plural

  • die
  • none if indefinite
